I love my Doilies!  Yes, those round, oblong, square, frilly or plain doilies that were hand crafted by women I love and loved (or by anyone for that matter).  Those resourceful women had more time than money and did not want to sit idle as they listened to the radio in the evenings.  Yarn and string were easy to get at the General Store on Main Street.  These women lived lives fill with hard work.  They wanted beautiful things in their homes.

I get it.   I doubt they realize how much they influenced me. They were my grandmothers, aunts, great aunts and other “elders”.   Now that I’m where they were when I watched them, it’s easy to see their influence.  I don’t like being idle either.  I love beautiful things, too. I love making things.  I love creating.

Not long ago I was inspired to make a quilt similar to one I saw on Pinterest.  Whole cloth with two borders…a white border and a matching grey border and applique my cherished doilies to the front.  When I quilted it, I used round patters, wreaths or anything that looked like a doily.  I call it I Love My Doilies.
