Recently I was asked to make a patriotic quilt for a client’s husband. He is a veteran. I really love my country. I’m grateful to be an American. I am thankful our forefathers who, in their wisdom, created a totally unique form of government. I’m deeply moved when I think of all who have served this land to keep us free. As the family genealogist, it’s important for me to chronicle the stories like how my uncle was a pilot who was shot down and held prisoner of war in a German prison in World War II. My father, my grandfather and my great-grandfather served. My children’s Dad and Grandfather served. I could go on and on about how deeply I respect and appreciate their commitment.
So when my friend asking me to make a patriotic quilt, as you can imagine, I was honored. The client found a picture of a quilt she loved and sent it to me. I wondered if I could I design one close to the original? My genealogy research skills kicked into high gear and it paid off when I found the exact match… and it was a panel. (If you don’t quilt, it means the center banner was printed on fabric.) So, I started another search..to find one to buy. I found one. I ordered it. I arrived a week later.
I lovingly took it to my local quilt shop, A Nimble Thimble, and found the perfect fabrics. I bordered the panel, and this morning it was hanging on my new design wall. (More about the newly rearranged studio to come later),
Now I’m quilting it and it’s on my long arm machine.
I hope he enjoys it!
Have a great evening friends… from Texas,
Annie
