It seems I’ve spent quite a few hours designing quilts for challenges.  It’s near the top of my “Things I do for Fun” list.

You might not know these things about me when I’m designing:

1)  I love contrast.  Brights on white.  Brights on Black.  Happy, interesting, or bold color choices make me happy.  I love red, white and blue together.  I love red, white and green (think Christmas.  Think watermelon colors.)  I love all colors but I want them to POP against another color.  As a result, I do. not. do. “neutral” colors when I design quilts.  They can be stunning and gorgeous but they are just not my vibe.  I made a black and gray quilt once and had to f.o.r.c.e. myself to finish it.  Force. Myself.  Never again.

2)  I love curves.  Love.Love.Love curves. I love soft, gentle, easy-to-sew curves. Keywords:  easy-to-sew curves.  They add movement, cause my eyes to roam all over the quilt.  They add  symmetry and balance.  To make the curves, I found and I love using the Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I seem to be in a curvy period of quilt design because I’ve  designed dozens of quilts (and sashings) using their ruler.

3)  I love designing quilts for challenges.  I work best when in problem solving mode and  challenges do that for me.  They excite and inspire me. I love designing quilts for clients–it’s a fun and fulfilling challenge to help their vision come to life.

4)  I love popcorn, too.  I add that because I felt like I was on a roll!

So, this week I submitted 2 quilt designs to the EQ7 Monthly Challenge.  Actually it’s the same quilt – one with a border and one without a border.  Go look.  Here’s a sneak peek.
