Annie McHugs designs and sells Barn Quilts.  It’s a shared effort with my wonderful hubby who we call Hoot.  Why do I call him Hoot?  Because years ago he made me laugh and I said, “You are a hoot.”    I paused.  I thought about it.  I said, “No child can say my first name…but they can say Annie.  So why not just claim our grandparent names as Hoot and Annie?”  BTW:  It’s always a party at Hoot and Annie’s house.

Hoot does a lot of work for Annie McHugs… like making barn quilts.  First he  buys high grade exterior wood, cuts it into the sizes we need. He treats each one with an exterior paint primer to protect the wood. He applies 2 coats of base paint – usually white – and specifically for use outside.

I draw the design  on the painted wood.  Yes, you can choose your block and your colors!  We, mostly he, paints 3-5 coats of color.  Then he finishes it with a strong clear coat to protect it.  The finishing touch is a frame out of trim.  It takes hours to dry so this process can take 10 days.

The 2 ft. by 2 ft. are great for porches, garage walls, and backyard fences.  The 4 ft. by 4 ft. (large) ones are great for barns and fence lines.

Check out our Barn Quiltsbelow.  We’ll be selling them at the Dallas Quilt Show, March 13-15th, 2015 in Dallas.

Wouldn’t it be great to see barn quilts on porches and fences and barns in your area?  So, let us make one for you!
