Animals We Love is the theme of the 9th Annual Quilt Alliance contest.  The goal is to raise money in an auction for the organization.

“The Quilt Alliance is a nonprofit 501c3 organization established in 1993 whose mission is to document, preserve, and share our American quilt heritage by collecting the rich stories that historic and contemporary quilts, and their makers, tell about our nation’s diverse peoples and their communities.”

The Animals We Love rules were simple:  finished quilt had to be 16in. by 16 in., a label on the back and a 4 inch sleeve for hanging.  So, to support the Alliance,  I did it.  Yes, I entered the contest.  So did 90+ other people.

Yes, it is a contest and there are some awesome prizes!  And, there are some amazing quilts, too.  Here are a few of my favorites (starting with the one I made.)  The creativity is crazy fun!

My entry is called Rainbow Showers. As I wrote for the entry, I decided to do a rainbow elephant because the rainbow symbolizes faith and elephants symbolize strength, the ability to remove obstacles and gentle confidence. As a quilter, I aspire to live these principles.

Can you See it? Rainbow Shower

I used 28 different cotton fabrics; and 100% cotton batting.  Applique and decorative stitching were used.

I really enjoyed making this for the fund raiser!

What animal do you love?
